Move On

Hello,

I'm writing to ask you to join me in signing a MoveOn PAC petition demanding real answers from President Bush regarding the "smoking gun" Downing Street Memo.

To help get the truth about why we invaded Iraq, please sign this letter today.

http://www.moveonpac.org/tellthetruth/

The Downing Street memo is called a "smoking gun" because it contains the minutes from a British cabinet meeting in July of 2002, 6 months before the war began. During that meeting high ranking British officials reported that the Bush administration admitted it was already determined to invade Iraq, and was "fixing" intelligence about WMD's to justify the war.

This, of course, contradicts everything President Bush has told us about how he chose war as a last resort, and made that decision because he thought he had solid intelligence about the Iraqi WMD threat.

Bush has refused to even respond to the memo, but after Tony Blair's visit this week the pressure is really building. Representative John Conyers of Michigan is gathering 500,000 signatures and comments from American voters to take directly to President Bush at the White House gates and demand real answers. Please sign today and help get out the truth.

http://www.moveonpac.org/tellthetruth/

Thanks!

Here’s what I added to my submission – you have the opportunity to add to the content of a letter sent right to W. himself (his aides will read it he doesn’t read)

I'm embarrassed by you! I recently saw your video clip of your one finger salute - you flashed it right into the camera at us the American public. George you are President of the United States. You were running for the Office that George Washington occupied. Can you not fathom the responsibility and integrity you must bring to the Oval Office? Arrogance can be a tool for success to a degree, but you will be swallowed up whole by it if you don't get your act together. Getting away with as much as possible is not the mark of success. It is the mark of a criminal. Halliburton should be called on the carpet for over charging the Pentagon, and subsequently the tax payers - who you are supposed to represent. But by rewarding them with yet another contract you prove once again your loyalty is not to the tax payers whose votes you rely on, but to the people who paid for your campaign. That's wrong, and you know better. Come on George I'm rooting for you do something decent - give up privatizing social security to benefit Wall Street - strengthen the EPA - lead the fight against pollution - do something other than just pad your friends pockets, or you will have a legacy of shame - no matter the outcome in IRAQ.

Check out the next topics title link to see the picture of George giving the finger directly to the television camera’s – we are on the other end of that finger – thanks W.!

We invaded because of repeat violations of the UN resolution already in place and for the over 700 times our fighter pilots were shot at protecting the no fly zone NOT just because we suspected wmds & confirmed wmds he used on his OWN people.
Don't bother sending me this move on bunk.

god love you brother – are you coming down for the Allman Brothers concert?

Don’t be so alarmed I’m all for a shinning example of democracy in the middle east and a safe haven for political dissent, women’s rights, religious freedom, and the free market enterprise and freedoms that’s supposed to bring. And I agree better there than here and what if we actually pull it off, and the suicide bombers can get jobs instead of abject poverty, banks instead of bombs – it will be a turning point for the world. I loathe theocracies, and thugs cloaked in religious garb are the worst evil imaginable (Spanish inquisition – not the comfy pillows) – and I am an extreme proponent of freedom of choice when it comes to everything – including the right to self determination – the right to free and safe abortions – the right to determine on an individual basis what is right for you – legalized hemp production (medical marijuana – how is marijuana worse than morphine) and legalized prostitution (tax revenue and health oversight) – the right to own a hand gun (close the gun show loopholes) and a flat tax of 5% - the elimination of the payroll tax – a supporter of sin tax (cigarettes – alcohol – marijuana and prostitution) – a luxury tax, (big ticket items, yachts, diamonds, and furs) and a waiver on taxes for basic needs (bread, milk, cheap transportation) – and most of all the Separation of Church and State – the protection of the Environment as a priority over corporate profit margins, and the right to live and let live. Where in Bush’s energy bill is increased fuel efficiency – it’s not what’s good for America – it’s what’s good for Bush and his well heeled uber-rich cronies – this isn’t an anti war screed, but an anti Bush screed the man is a blatant rip off artist and liar – he’s trying to consolidate power in the executive branch which is unconstitutional, and threatens the separation of powers – without the separation of powers you get tyranny (Hitler)

What I’m saying is that The Office of President of the United States and Congress need a history lesson – Nixon was run out of office because he lied about the break in, why – because the highest office in this land should be held with the utmost integrity – Clinton got run off for a blow job – why – same reason – it’s just now that the conservatives who usually champion statesmanship and ethics aren’t saying anything because it’s their guy in power. That’s called hypocrisy, and it shouldn’t be accepted least of all in our politicians – they all should get a history lesson as part of their tenure in Washington. I’m sorry Bush and Company are a bunch of jackal’s raping our natural resources, padding their private accounts and habitually lying to the American people – the whole push for the war was an engineered bunch of bull – they know what Saddam is about – they put him in power and propped him against Iran up just like they did with Noriega – where is Osama – let me say that again WHERE is OSAMA – why aren’t all these resources going into finding OSAMA - why are we diverting attention away from this renegade son of a wealthy and influential Saudi Arabian family – don’t cloak yourself in Biblical Born Again robes – and bald face lie to the American Public – that on it’s face makes me want to puke - a sense of history – integrity and statesmanship needs to be brought back to the White House and Capital Hill – Bill Frist thinks he’s channeling Jesus himself – and in the end it’s a reach but one potential outcome of accepting this kind of behavior from our leaders is that – me and you – and everybody else – end up living in a Christian Theocracy based on Southern Baptist doctrine – look out buddy – no more Allman Brother Concerts – no more – well you know – the stuff you like to do – including pre-marital sex – oral sex – should I continue – the moral police are coming to a neighborhood near you, and they are power hungry hypocrites using religion to gain political gain for personal profit – and control – Liberty requires constant vigilance – so yes I’m stuck in the 60’s the 1760’s

My Response:

to suggest being liberal means you are not pro - American is a dangerous concept that outlaws dissent. And a system of checks and balances is hinged on informed dissent – otherwise we blindly march in goose step – you are smarter than that

great to hear from you did you buy my book yet – come on sister you might be surprised – I really want you guys to read it – if any of you cats wrote a book I would be the first one to buy it – what a hoot –

yeah the old Dennis Miller thing – after 9/11 I’m a conservative thing – well that’s your right, but idealism, and the ability to imagine a better future and walking the walk if you talk the talk – well that’s the real deal – Bush is just another liar and now a days no one cares – but when it comes to our system of government and the White House and Capital Hill integrity and ethics is a must – there can’t be any fudging on that issue or we (the tax payers) just open ourselves up to being ripped off – subsidize the timber industry so they can tear down the forest – why – to keep a few CEO’s in power – if these guys were true conservatives they would let the unprofitable timber businesses go broke – the loggers absolutely could have well paying (not seasonal) jobs as fire fighters and forest managers clearing trails and monitoring migration, and water tables – don’t you think water is a resource that we should protect – so the Downing Street Memo is just an on paper – gotchya – and quite frankly with the way this administration has eroded the separation of church and state – the separation of powers – well I’m a little disappointed in old W to say the least. I am passionate about the founding fathers and the original system of government – I’m a constitutionalist, and I think the fringes of the republican party (who Bush panders too) and his obvious wheeling and dealing with his industry buddies – (Exxon and Mobil are making a ton of money – they don’t want oil consumption reduced) – his actions are in their self interest, and that would be okay if they didn’t run counter to what is truly good for America, and Americans – a healthy environment means a healthy citizenry and lower health care costs – let me ask you this – why do the governors of seven states have to sue our federal government to place existing technology on the smokestacks of out dated coal plants – for governors to sue – wouldn’t that suggest that the federal government is out of step with the tax payers, and citizenry – and they are not REPRESENTING the people – which is what our system of government was set up to do! But rather just protecting an industry that funds their careers and showers them with riches – not a bad gig if you can get it. Why is this current cast in D.C. so unrepresentative, because they are in it for themselves – it’s perhaps the culture and fashion of the times to be that way – but government is not private business – there are overriding principles and considerations in the act of governing – business is not government – although a government has to provide for a good business climate – why is this current administration residing over such a huge deficit – it’s bad for business – but the uber-rich tax cuts are great for the individual businessmen – so as long as the economy doesn’t go completely to crap who cares – except the middle class who are getting killed at the gas pumps - in order to be a successful country we can’t be swept away by fashion or culture. Rather we need strict adherence to the principles that got us here as embodied in the declaration of independence, the constitution and the bill of rights – I recommend that everybody reacquaint themselves with those well thought out doctrines – have you ever read them – great stuff – and this Clown (Bush) is running roughshod over the very foundations of our freedoms. His lying and the fuss that will be made over it – is a way to make him honest – and that is a good thing – he’s way too cocky and that would be okay except that his actions, and lack of integrity affect all of us – he needs to called on the carpet just like Clinton and just like Nixon. I smell an impeachment coming.

My Response:

I agree, and those are the real reasons we should have gone to war – the human rights violations. Saddam was/is a whack job gassing the Kurds – in fact screw Iraq and Turkey – the Kurds should get their own country – the solution to the mess in Iraq is not in trying to bring the Shiites, the Sunnis and Kurds together, but letting what happened in Yugoslavia happen in Iraq – give em their own damn countries divide Iraq up into three parts – they are already self segregated into the south, middle, and north – and be done with it – and get our guys home – that’s really what should happen in my opinion – does that make me liberal or conservative – or an independent thinker (hhmmm lousy libertarian perhaps – I prefer secular humanist – it has a nice ring) and while those reasons are valid just as in confronting Slavery in the U.S., Hitler and Saddam well there are other regimes out there just as bad – the leaders in some of these African countries are way whacked so do we go there and try and straighten them out – can we possibly be the worlds policeman – that’s what Bush is doing now – that’s his excuse – it’s a very liberal one – does that make it wrong – I think the European Union has to step up and take a lead on some of these other atrocities – and it looks like they are doing that. You read how I feel about Bush and the high standards our politicians should be held to – based on the history of our struggle – the example and greatness of George Washington - the American Revolution, The Civil War, The War of 1812, the Spanish American War – you know the blood shed that was spilled for high ideas of freedom for all, and the Union so I won’t repeat them – (is that cheering I hear). Suffice to say I’m just a patriot old lad from Philadelphia! George Washington should be the standard that all politicians aspire to – I know you are a history buff, and political junkie pick up some reading on George Washington – what a hero, and Patriot – unbelievable.

Typically, I stay clear of these discussions, however……

generally speaking, if there is an actual, immediate, and absolute necessity to wage war, any Proud American should support it. But to disregard factual distortions and then wave an American flag and insinuate that those who don’t follow blindly are not Proud Americans is concerning. What Proud American wasn’t appalled by 911? These debates are arbitrary when the goal is simply to defend a party stance.

It is evident that President Bush lacked an open, free-thinking, creative mind when other options were not more fully explored before entering into a war. If, after accurate fact-finding is performed and presented truthfully, war is determined a necessity, then do it. But what solution does invading Iraq provide when the radicals who target America continue to spread hatred. Seems to me this has just added fuel to a fire that’s out of control and has limited our options for perhaps more strategic engagement while our forces are imbedded in a mire with no foreseeable end. A greater solution was and still is required - not a Drop in the Ocean approach.

Question – before the US invaded Iraq, Sadam provided volumes of documents declaring their military weaponry. I can still remember the volumes being delivered to Washington. Reviewers of the documents stated that Iraq declared no weapons of mass destruction and we called the documents a farce – were they? (Not to excuse Sadam’s treatment of Iraqi citizens during his dictatorship which has nothing to do with my question and certainly nothing to do with why we are there).

911 and Iraq are two (2) different issues with only limited overlap.

No Proud American should stand for misrepresentation.

God bless America.

I haven't finished reading all this and I'm not sure I have the time but didn't Nixon give you your precious ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY AMONG OTHER THINGS.

AGAIN REPEAT VIOLATIONS OF UN RESOLUTION ALREADY IN PLACE FROM THE FIRST GULF WAR; WE WERE JUST FINISHING THE JOB. THOSE weapons ARE PROBABLY IN SYRIA; BESIDES HE DID TRY TO ASSASSINATE BUSH 41. THe so called faulty intelligence was at the hands of people clinton appointed, wasn't it nice of Bush (although unfortunate) they got to keep their jobs. AND SHAME ON PAUL FOR SENDING THIS MOVE ON JUNK TO A VETERAN who was among those pilots shot by Sadhams mass murderers! As far as that finger, I believe it was superimposed.

Woah, wait a sec, Shame? I think it is the act of a dictionary-defined patriot to question the government. I would think that a veteran (like my father) would respect Paul and admire his courage for bringing up it up, unpopular as it might be. You may disagree with Paul (and you may disagree with an organization who is attempting to organize people to request an investigation into why a country went to war), but to call for shame, well, that seems unfair, and unfounded.

Yes he did.
For more information, read

I will be brief and say that there are a number of republicans that are beginning to see clearly and some that refuse to look more critically at this war and this administration.

I raise my glass to your efforts, Paul. And what hippies have to do with anything here is, well, humorous to me. But there are those that think that mentioning hippies makes a complete argument. LOL!
