Song of the Day - Richard Julian - Window

Song of the Day is sincerely pleased to showcase "Window" and the amazing lyrical and musical virtuosity of one Richard Julian. There are not a lot of video clips of #RichardJulian out there but fortunately this stint at a public radio station in #Charlottesville exists. I picked this clip because it's a beautiful song recorded very well. You can really hear his great voice, smart lyrics and witness his dexterity and tone on the guitar. Originally from #Delaware he is a classically trained pianist. There are other clips I'll list below of his music that you should explore. We are big fans of his and have several of his CD's. He currently is a partner at a club in #Brooklyn called #LunÁtico. If you are a local you know it and if you are passing through don't miss the opportunity to see him live. Apparently the food is top notch with a wide selection of quality #Tequila so what's not to like! His good taste goes beyond music. And why wouldn't an artist want to stop chasing venues and audiences and settle down at home and create weekly? Imagine the quality of #musicians that grace their stage. Yes unknown does not mean untalented. Sunday Morning in Saturdays Shoes is a favorite album of ours - there's a link to it on Pandora below.
The Man in the Hole is also a lovely tune and the link below is a great capture - the audio quality is great.
And the professionally shot Die in New Orleans is also listed below the result of his tenure in the Big Easy.
Spend some time with Richard Julian you won't regret it - you don't have to take my word for it:
"One of the best songwriters and record makers I've heard in a very long time." - Randy Newman
"Richard just knocks me out. Some of the coolest, smartest and original music I've heard in years." - Bonnie Raitt
"My favorite collection of songs by one of my favorite songwriters."
- Norah Jones

Song of the Day - Melody Gardot - Our Love Is Easy

Song of the Day is thrilled to present a double dose of Melody Gardot a chanteuse from Philadelphia. Regularly touring Europe she is a beautiful performer and song writer with an eternal sensibility. Her back story is both amazing and tragic but I would rather focus on her music.  These beautiful simmering slow burn songs were both recorded on her My one and only thrill album (It's the one we fell in love with). Melody has a place in our home and travels not only during dinner but during our sun-downers whenever we can arrange that. Her sunglasses are not an affectation but a result of a critical car and bicycle accident. You can learn about her back story at the links below but do not think for one second it over shadows her music. No way brothers and sisters but rather just another example of the very real healing power and magic of music.

In an ever increasingly noisy and hysterical world Melody's voice, phrasing, lyricism and sensibilities are a warm wind and a reminder and balm for the soul.

#SongofTheDay - recommends Melody sincerely and romantically for your listening pleasure.

From her website #MelodyGardot https://www.gardot.com/ is an American jazz singer, writer and musician. She was disabled after being struck by a car while riding her bicycle and began writing music after using music to aid her recovery. Gardot has been influenced by such artists as Janis Joplin, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Stan Getz…

Song of The Day - Eilen Jewell "Rio Grande"

Song of the Day is proud to present Eilen Jewell and her rocking band. Our featured song is Rio Grande a tex mex rave up with smart dark lyrics and a fun as hell groove driven by a great band of musicians. Jerry G Miller on guitar has the goods and then some. Her driving thumping rhythm section of stand up bass and drum players Johnny Sciascia and Jason Beek play with authority. Think Asleep at the Wheel only with a lot more bite and authenticity. A rich sensibility of verse and poetry are woven through a voice that helps you check into the deep end of life and enjoy the swim. Eilen is not to be missed or underestimated. So if you have an itch for Willie Nelson with a lot more grit or Commander Cody with a little more heart or NRPS with more thoughtful lyrics in that Graham Parson's Burrito Brother vein Eileen is your woman.

#SongofTheDay is highly recommending #EilenJewell, #JerryMiller, #JohnnySciascia and #JasonBeek as a fully realized musical triumph.

Additional Clip Rich Man's World shows them stripped down playing in an alley having fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNwZi_SbwA8

Song of The Day - Silvia (Who is She) Steve Winwood and Jose Neto

The Song of the Day is Steve Winwood performing Silvia.  The composition is a Jose Neto original that Jose and Steve reworked into this monumental masterpiece.  Jose Neto is the man behind the White Paradis Avalon.  And yes I have a white hot love for #JoseNeto.  This #SteveWinwood opus might have gotten by you since Steve, Blind Faith, Traffic I mean come on Arc of the Diver the man has been delivering since he was seventeen years old.   Silvia originally came out on the About Time album from 2003.  And in case you missed About Time do yourself a favor and circle back.  #AboutTime is just a smokin', gloriuos, vocal and instrumental tour de force.  Yes the jam is on and the jam is glorious.  At about the 7 minute mark of this live HD clip from Austin City Limits Jose takes flight and if tears don't well up in your eyes - well my friend you have lost your soul and could be officially dead.

#SongofTheDay is proud as punch to deliver Silvia (Who is She) to your digital consciousness - enjoy!
