My Fellow Americans,
We need to Wake Up America - our business as usual approach is destroying the very thing that sustains us - profit margin and markets are important but they come way down on the priority list. The health of the planet, the health of our ecosystem, the health of our food population, the health of our rivers and streams, the health of our air all lead up to the health of our bodies and our lives. The time to change is now. Dirty energy sources must be phased out and eliminated over the next decade. The profiteers must be made to understand the health of the planet comes first, the health of each other comes first, the health of our food system comes first. Then we can begin to talk about the markets and profit margins. Anything less than that is unaware, selfish and suicidal.
I'm writing today to encourage you to support doubling our national fuel economy standard. This step would greatly help us break free of our dependence on oil. It's not just the environment but it's about preventing war for oil resources - we don't need the oil we can walk away from the middle east. As we spend our time, and effort on clean energy sources we will discover new opportunities and expand the marketplace in a healthy forthright manner. The debate is over it's time to act.
Sincerely,
The United States of America

Here's the Lee Iacocca rave-out bouncing around the Web right now:
"Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'Stay the course.' Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic. I'll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out!" ...
